Rare Wedgwood Black Shell Handle Urn Art Vase ~ Very Large 24cm ~ 1958

In excellent condition this Wedgwood shell handle urn shaped vase is dated 1958. Most remaining Wedgwood urn vases of this size are from the 1960's.
The vase measures approximately 24cm (9.5") tall, 18.8cm (just short of 7.5") diameter at the rim and 12.4cm (4 7/8") diameter at the base. 
Wedgwood's Ravenstone matte black glaze (along with its counterpart white glaze, Moonstone) was developed in the 1930's by Norman Wilson, master potter, inventor and Wedgwood's Works Manager. More satin or eggshell than matte, the glaze accentuates the urn's classic form.
